Quotejdc back in the day when my father taught me we used screwdrivers, big Craftsmen ones. Worked fine. No idea if they even had tire levers in the 60s, or if they did, my father never told me about them... I guess they must have been pretty worn and rounded ones. Yes, they definitely had tire levers in the 60s and earlier. When we couldn't find the tire levers we always used the handle end ofby davester - Tips and Deals
QuoteWailerI've never tried it with a screwdriver, but it would probably work. A sure way to getting more flats QuoteWailerIA new tube with a schrader valve should be around $5. You don't need any tools to put the tire and tube back on. This is true for many mountain or hybrid bikes, but for a lot of road bike tire/rim combos it is impossible to get the tire back on without tire levers.by davester - Tips and Deals
The hardest part of repairing any flat is taking the tire off and putting it back on. Patching the tube with a patch kit is mindnumbingly simple and fast. Just follow the instructions in the kit (especially the one about abrading the tube before putting the cement on). Be very careful putting the tube back on that you don't pinch the tube between the tire and rim. Once I get the tire seated,by davester - Tips and Deals
Quotespace-time $63 doesn't seem that much for a sun visor. How much would you expect one to cost? I would have thought a piece of plastic with some cloth on it should cost around $20-25, but maybe I am too optimistic. A piece of plastic with a hinge, a mirror and a mirror door on a car way out of production. Yes, I think you're being extremely optimistic.by davester - Tips and Deals
$63 doesn't seem that much for a sun visor. How much would you expect one to cost? The $130 for a particular color seems a little out of line, but it sounds like you're not that picky about the color. Also, a quick google search found a whole bunch of them on ebay and other places for around $60. Perhaps you could find the right color there.by davester - Tips and Deals
QuoteChakravartin Astonishing how they all seem to cluster in the same places. It's almost as if the rest of the country doesn't tweet very much. Almost like Internet access is limited in some places and skewing the results. Nah. Everything you read is true and complete and you don't ever have to think about it. Actually they don't. QuoteChakravartin Once again, imbeciles confuse Internet-access and racism. This is a map of broadband-access in the U.S.A. Look familiar? Congratulations! You've successfully mapped Twitter-usage in the USA. WRONG! Before jumping to conclusions, perhaps you should have clicked the link and looked at the methodology. I must say that this is totally unexpected. This is a map of tweets using specific words uses against minorities, gays and disabled people. I expected more variation regarding prejudice against different groups and I'm surprised regarding the east-west divide versus expected deep south racism. This is the map of homophobic words. I usually agree with you, Gutenberg, and Steve G is a common purveyor of unfunny provocative thread titles (and content) that border on trolling. I also find it annoying when people use thread titles to mislead or contain no hint of the content (e.g. "Is this true" or "What do you think of this?"). However, in this specific instance I think that the particular thread title wasby davester - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

QuoteRacer X Wow, $610? Its $311 or so for flat rate total rebuild on a MBP that is out of warranty AFAIK. Anyway, great news. Quoteonthedownlow Quotedavester 7. I just picked it up today. It works perfectly! Thanks Apple!! What are the chances of a story like this happening with a Dell? Good story and congrats. Some of you may recall a few months ago that I was having intermittent video issues with my wife's 2008 MBP, progressing to a grey blank screen. I suspected it was the nvidia problem whose extended warranty had just run out. Here's what happened: 1. I took it in to the genius bar and they told me "nope, the video card is fine, you need a new LCD". They also told me that the LCD was nby davester - Tips and Deals

I definitely understand the issue of trying to understand economic problems as an engineer or scientist but being flummoxed by people who let their emotions rule. Sadly, I don't see the "morality play" mentality losing its grip. If that were true then there wouldn't be so many republican buffoons in the house of representatives. Volts and amps go hand in hand. If the battery is unable to supply as much current as the tool requires, then there will be a substantial voltage drop. This doesn't happen within the normal parameters of cordless tool operation. The reason that tool makers choose NiCd and Lion battery chemistries over others is that they can produce a constant voltage output at the currents that the tools demand.by davester - Tips and Deals
We have hosted a number of foreign late high school to college age students studying english in the US. We've always done this through a program that finds host famiilies for their students. QuoteBuzzBatteries do have "power" differences, and the more power the device sucks from the battery will make those differences more apparent. Some devices will manifest almost immediately, such as a high torque drill torquing a long screw through hard wood, whereas other devices you may not be able to tell at all, such as a lower torque drill removing a well lubricated shorter screw fby davester - Tips and Deals
QuoteBlack The lithium batteries are certainly smaller and lighter, but I have heard conflicting reports of whether they're equally powerful to the Ni-Cds. I'm not sure what you mean by "equally powerful". They all have the same voltage so they will power each tool exactly the same way. One more thing. I just remembered that there's this totally crazy (but very informative) guy who has something of a Ryobi battery fetish. Check it out:by davester - Tips and Deals
The older Ryobi stuff had NiCd batteries that were junk. My old 12v Dewalt NiCd drill batteries lasted about 10 times as long as my Ryobi NiCds, indicating that they use low quality cells (and the 12v drill is more powerful than my 18v Ryobi!). This is not surprising since Ryobi in general only makes low end throwaway budget tools (ok for occasional homeowner use, worthless for a lot of use). Sinby davester - Tips and Deals
Standard fee for appraisals here in sunny northern California is $300, whether you're 5 minutes or an hour away. Thirty minutes doesn't seem to be enough time to do an appraisal.
