Quotesekker 2) I am KEEPING the SL copy around for some time to come. After my successful upgrade to ML, I now keep a CCC clone plus my TM. But I still have the SL boot drive around just in case I need to go back for a Rosetta application. As we discussed in this thread, I am thinking of keeping SL around as a virtual machine in either Parallels or Fusion, probably Parallels, since I alrby mrlynn - Tips and Deals
QuoteChakravartin QuotemrlynnUpdating from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion: Any Need To Wipe Drive? No. But it may save you some trouble if you use a program like Onyx to clear user and system caches and then reboot before installing the new OS. I have found that most problems people experience jumping from 10.6.8 to 10.8.x are due to problems with those caches. ...And are you sure that your Macby mrlynn - Tips and Deals

MNB, after watching a technician remove the glass from my 27" iMac, I don't think I want to do it myself; I'm enough of a klutz that even if I don't break it I'll end up with dirt, cat hair, smudges, and whatnot inside. I've no problem swapping HDs in the old Dell Optiplexes that we used to have in the office, but those are designed (with plastic carriers) to make it easy. The iMac andby mrlynn - Tips and Deals
QuoteGGD Quoterz Quotemrlynn I got iPhones for myself and my wife. I want to sync contacts with my iMac, via iCloud, which requires ML. How often are you adding contacts that you have the need to constantly sync them? And do you realize that you can sync the iPhone contacts with your SL Address book without iCloud, just using iTunes when you connect it to the Mac, and you can back it upby mrlynn - Tips and Deals
MrNoBody, are you using an external HD for your User accounts and data? You'll pay a performance penalty for that. Or have you got a machine with room for two drives? That's a luxury these days (where is our inexpensive mid-sized tower, oh Apple lords?). My iMac has but one HD, and an optical drive, which I do use. So everything is going to stay on the one internal. I expect that's true oby mrlynn - Tips and Deals

Quotemodelamac I don't need to hear the latest gossip right now, or that you found a great deal, or found something I was looking for. I don't care what you are doing right now. Thanks, WHiiP— That article was useful. One thing I didn't know is that ML deletes the Installer when it's done. I assumed I still had it from the install I did recently on my MacBook Pro. Nope; it's gone. Oh well. Better check my HD, and also see if my clone will still boot the iMac. And I've got to update some applications, especially Parallels. I know this has been discussed up, down, and sideways, but just to be sure: Is there any reason why I should not just download ML and run it on my iMac without wiping the HD and starting from scratch? I really don't have the time to reinstall applications, etc. There's doubtless a lot of junk that it would behoove me to weed out, but I'd really rather not bother. Following upon this thread, I'm puzzled why I can't see printers on our home network. And then, why can't I see the computers on the network, either? Found this on the Parallels Forum: QuoteI'm afraid due to massive changes in Lion (Mac OS 10.7) and Mountain Lion (Mac OS 10.8), Parallels Desktop 6 is not compatible with Mountain Lion. And only the latest build of PD 6 is partially compatible with Mac OS 10.7 Lion. So that answers the question. /Mr Lynnby mrlynn - Tips and Deals
I'm perfectly happy with Parallels 6 under Snow Leopard, but I'm planning to move to Mountain Lion. Do I have to update Parallels to v. 8? Or is it fine to stick with 6? Parallels wants $50 for the upgrade. Oddly, Amazon offers a new (boxed, I assume) edition of Parallels 8 for the same price. Odd. /Mr Lynnby mrlynn - Tips and Deals

Near Harvard Square a short street called Mason St. joins Brattle St. at a bit of an angle.
