QuoteLemon Drop good points but US Catholics went 51/48 for Obama over Romney in 2012. Yep. Romney's poor showing among Hispanics is part of that. Catholics evolved to vote their consciences, but many still self-identify as Republican. As opposed to Republicants. :biggrin:by cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
This is what I like to hear. A pope who returns to the words of Christ, not the words of the endless chain of politicians who succeeded Him. The "Right" has problems pushing back against the Pope. Because there are more Catholics in the US than any other religious group, and we mostly vote Republican. The Southern fundamentalists, of course, think that we're all the minions of tby cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
The Latitudes are corporate models, and are much more rugged than their consumer models. I had one of the D630's for three years at work until they upgraded us to Windows 7 and HP "Elitebooks" (which are less reliable). The Dell refurb Latitudes are corporate lease tradebacks, and usually in decent shape. Refurbs from someone else are probably just reformatted from whomever, but agaby cbelt3 - Tips and Deals

Just don't do what I did several years ago, and repurpose the TM backup drive the same day as I installed a new drive. Because I did it wrong, and the new drive fried. WIthout a recent backup. Lost a week of work on that one.by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals

Well at least he has access to low cost world class cardiac care at the Cleveland Clinic. Seriously.. the place is like an assembly line for cardiac work. Amazing.by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
It will be called whatever they want. Most developers like to stay away from version 1.0 or higher, becuse that implies a 'gold master'. That way you can say "Oh, it's beta" when people whine about stuff. Especially when you don't charge for it.by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
Ken... Here's a joke to explain what the Senators want. Bob has 10 apples. He gives Fred 5 apples becuase Fred has none. Fred is angry , and thinks his number of apples has been reduced by 5. Why is Fred angry ? Answer: Fred is a Democrat.by cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

sam- 1- Political post. Wrong side, alas. I make the same error myself periodically. 2- "Diatribe" style opinion writings of this sort are so slapdash that they are painful. It would be nicer if these authors would develop a single thesis and stick with it, instead of arguing around like a cat chasing a squirrel. 3- Many of the points are factless. My favorite was the idea that 'repaby cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Deus- yup. Police Sniper rules of engagement, and battlefield rules. Heck.. I worked with a guy who served on U-boats in WWII, was captured when his U-boat was forced to the surface, and then enlisted in the US Marines and fought in the Pacific. A fascinating guy.. what stories he told!by cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Quotemattkime Quotecbelt3My company will not hire smokers. Wow, never heard of that before. The Cleveland Clinic started the trend here in Ohio. Before long all the hospitals were refusing to hire anyone with nicotine in their blood. People who already worked there any smoked were given lots of encouragement to quit, support, etc. But are still not fired because they still smoke. Then theby cbelt3 - Tips and Deals

A friend is applying for a job with my company. My company will not hire smokers. They perform a blood test. How long must he have quit, or at least not smoked ::o in order to test OK ?by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
I can't think of a reason why this happens. When you click on a single tab, does it just select that tab and stop selecting all of them ? Having something like that happens is definitely NOT a 'Feature"... cross editing all active selected tabs is VERY annoying.by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
That IS weird. I don't have that on my Win7/Excel 2010. I create a new document (Control-N) it pops up a blank document of the format defined under File / Options / Save. And I can't find any settings in the Options sections that do that. What file format are you saving in ? .xlsx ? .xlsm ? .xls ?by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals

As an investment idiot, I have many investment regrets. My chief regret is NOT buying AAPL when my youngest sister did. At $17 per share. She sold at about $600 per share and they bought a house. But at the time I needed the money to take care of my inlaw's medical bills. I could have just bought myself new inlaws ! :oldfogey:by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
Obvious question... what'cha got in there ? Anything you can pull off to an external bus powered drive that lives in your bag for 'whenever' ? Or are you running out using scratch disk ?by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
JoeH- Oh, absolute agreement. But the hysteria out of the Democratic Party apparatus made it clear that the World Would End when the sequesters came into effect. Having cried "Wolf ! Wolf !" and no slavering canid was perceived, the slow cascade of effects will get no particular reaction. The endless cavalcade of media wonks interviewing proud Okies who are picking up their lives and moving on shows two things: 1- Okies are tough. Damn tough. 2- Media wonks are idiots. Real idiots. These reporters seem to insist that everybody act like a shell shocked 'victim'. FWIW, I participated in an actual 'travel survey' here in NE Ohio, which involved carrying GPS trackers and whatnot. And they paid us $180 for participation, which was cool. Sometimes they are legit.by cbelt3 - Tips and Deals
Those headlines just write themselves, don't they ? I think it was a George Carlin bit who commented about politicians trotting out their trophy wives and children. "Well, we now know that his richard works ! So now he'll do to us what he was doing to her !"by cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Reality ? The 'universal pain and suffering' that was predicted hasn't happened. Hopefully this breaks the chain of endless entitlement that the Democratic Party was badly addicted to. Yes, Americans have been affected. But the stretch and speculation is getting silly. I'm waiting for the talking points to say "Sequestration caused the Tornado !". We've got less money to spend.by cbelt3 - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
