If they build it in Cook's hometown (Robertsdale, AL), I predict it will be called the iY'all.by Will Collier - Tips and Deals
Hardly surprising, the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the world, and is one of the few places that insists on taxing every dollar, no matter where it was earned. Repatriating money at that rate would put Apple at a competitive disadvantage and possibly open the company up to a shareholder lawsuit.by Will Collier - Tips and Deals

Gah. I despise Plex Media Server. No, damn it, I am NOT going to go rename and re-organize hundreds of files to comply with how you think they ought to be indexed! And I'm not going to spend days fixing your software's mistakes when it tries to guess movie names! That's why I already GAVE them names! </rant>by Will Collier - Tips and Deals
Quoterichorlin I would try the new Roku 3. You don't have to hack it and it plays well with Macs. Install Plex channel on the Roku and Plex server on your Mac and you can access all your iTunes media without any conversion. It even has a USB port for media on a USB stick that you don't want to put into iTunes. There is a whole world of official channels out there and more private channels than yoby Will Collier - Tips and Deals
Thinking about adding an ATV, would prefer if it played nice with my receiver and the mass of content on my server. Perian solves that problem for a Mac, anybody successfully loaded it on a current ATV? (There are tutorials online, but without an ATV, I can't exactly test them.) Thanks...by Will Collier - Tips and Deals

QuoteDavidS I've also been to a ton of concerts, having worked security and ushing in high school and college. Worse concert for sound for me was Counting Crows at a place call the Eagle Ballroom in Milwaukee, Summer 1994. Think about a venue shaped like a football. However, the stage is not at one end but in the middle of the ballroom. The sound immediately bounced off tha back wall and wasby Will Collier - Tips and Deals
QuoteSpeedy Quotemacphanatic I recently flew in a company's private jet. Everyone on the plane was using their smartphones, even during take-off and landing. The pilot was aware of the use and said nothing. No issues at all and this was in an older Beechcraft plane. Probably no fly-by-wire. (or did you just want to mention you flew in a private jet...) Worst concert ever: the Sugarcubes, MTV-filmed show at my college in 1988. Certainly the worst excuse for a "major" act I've ever seen play live (and I use the word "play" in the broadest sense possible; nobody in that band could actually play an instrument, and nobody but Bjork could sing). Living Colour opened that show. This was before their first album hit, and nobodby Will Collier - Tips and Deals
Been almost a decade since I refi'd (longer than that since I bought a house), but forged cashier's check fraud is a real problem these days. Of course, it's usually a problem for selling cars, not houses. I mean, it's not like they don't know where you live...by Will Collier - Tips and Deals
I spent the last 12 years working on aircraft avionics, and I would be quite surprised if that story is accurate. Pilot paranoia and/or ignorance (very, very few pilots have technical/engineering backgrounds) and CYA over a screw-up is a lot more likely. I'd throw in another layer of doubt considering it was a regional airline, where the pilots and mechanics were almost certainly much less expeby Will Collier - Tips and Deals
Go buy a receiver. Then call to activate it, and when they tell you what the (regular) price is, say, "That's ridiculous! I'm taking this thing back!" They'll immediately start offering you deals. Keep saying "no" until they offer $30 for five months. That'll give you a chance to see whether you want to keep the service or not. If you do, just keep calling to cancel everby Will Collier - Tips and Deals

Quote3d Quotemattkime quitting a brand new job is going to burn bridges. don't do it. Nah. Happens all the time. The office laughs about it. No hard feelings. Most jobs nowadays are "employment at will". Employers can fire you at any time, for any reason, (as long as it's not an illegal reason—Google it for clarification). This actually happened to me about 20 years ago. After being laid off from my first "real" job (company lost a contract and everybody was out the door) I accepted the first offer I got, a few (very broke) months later. I'd been there for less than two weeks when I got a call from another job that had much more security (GS). I hadn't even interviewed for it; the manager just calledby Will Collier - Tips and Deals

This is a very nerdly story of school trouble. When I was in high school (mid-80's), the only computers in the building were three or four Apple ][e's in the library. Not one single teacher, librarian or other school employee knew how to use them in any way. One of the few programs available for those Apples was "Computer Football" (I'm not even sure if that was the actual name).by Will Collier - Tips and Deals

Quotedavemchine Slightly off topic but AOL was a great service in it's day. Back in the 80's I was a user group representative. I received a free AOL account and I demo'd the service at user group meetings. What I liked best about AOL was the group chats (which I have yet to see matched anywhere else) and I also liked the forums. They were very active and each forum had leaders to ensure poliby Will Collier - Tips and Deals
