We need to reopen Alcatraz, or build a Devil's Island, or something.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I think "Right Wing Troll Ejected from Forum" is just wrong. It would be far better if we just tried to discuss the issues vigorously and honestly. I would like to see this forum survive and prosper, and it can't if people keep picking fights for the sake of picking fights. Steve G is not the only one doing this, just the most recent. But seriously, if we can't discuss important mattby Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

If Obama directed the IRS to harass these groups, as Nixon did in the 1970s, then he should be impeached. At the moment I don't think Obama even knew about it.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I am having trouble believing that Justice presented AP with a subpoena and AP did not tell them to go to hell. There has to be something more to it.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Shoot. I would love it if they'd do a cross grade from inDesign. I would be right there. I had a copy of Quark years ago but I have no idea where it could be now. It's probably Quark 3 or something like that.by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
No. There were no wiretaps. But they had to have had some kind of authorization to seize the records and I am guessing--I do not know--that they used FISA. I don't know where else you can get a secret subpoena.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Since the stories were about CIA the Justice Department probably went to a FISA court. Very dicey in my opinion. I know quite a few national reporters who use their personal cell phones to make some calls, and I know one who has had so many Boost phones in the last couple of years it's not funny. He's a little on the tinfoil beanie side, though maybe he has reason for the paranoia. There iby Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
There is one clinical study out of the University of Guelph (Canada) that suggests that eating sourdough--by that I mean bread made with a long-nurtured starter--is better for you than even whole grain bread. I like this study, because I like sourdough and I like fooling around and baking with starters. Beware, though, because that very sour "sourdough" in the supermarket is likely flavby Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Golly, I hit a nerve.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Maybe you should return the offending detector to the store.by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
OK, let me get this straight. The lamestream media are biased and tout the Administration line. They're a bunch of Democratic shills and they're incapable of telling the truth. The Washington Post is the worst among them. Until--WaPo reports something like this, and then you insist that because the article cited didn't mention tea party groups' opposition to taxation as a motive for the IRS chby Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
An organization with "Friends" in the title will get a little extra love from the folks in Cincinnati as they check whether you're a political organization, i.e., "Friends of Pete Domenici" or whoever. So library and museum friends groups can count on waiting an extra few weeks for their 501 (c) 3 status. That's just how it is, and I don't blame them for checking.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you too!by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
That Daily Beast story seems a little overwrought and speculative to me. I think Limbaugh et. al will be back--they always survive this sort of thing.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
I have a buff brick house myself. Try sanding and caulking the molding, sanding the door, then paint the molding and door in complementary colors--for instance you could go a light blue-grey for the molding and a darkish burnt orange--burnt sienna for the door, or dark green/burgundy, gold/purplish, etc. Squint at some paint chips to see what you like. There are many houses in Baltimore that haveby Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
Don't ruin the kid's life over an ill considered angry remark. I'm with Roger--it would not have gone this far if the junior's mother were a banker, say, or a secretary instead of the assistant superintendent of schools.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
What are you suggesting? The poor kid was depressed. Chances are he killed himself. He had nothing to do with the Boston bombings at all, and no one except some self-important detective-wannabes on a couple of Internet forums suggested he did. Why are you bringing this up now?by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
AP projecting Mark Sanford the winner of House seat from SC. Not surprising.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Oh, stop. Drop it, Mac. Grow up already.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
If neither side is shutting down, then why are people still @#$%&? Seriously, there is no reason to be ungracious about this. OWC has provided these forums free of charge for eight years, and I am sure some of the comments here and on the other side make Larry grind his molars. I think we need to remember that we are at a friend's house, and behave accordingly.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Benghazi is brought to you by the people who tried to impeach President Clinton over an affair with a grown woman. That should tell you everything you need to know about the legitimacy of the Benghazi investigation.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Gawd, I hope not, Black. The Discovery Channel is about nuthin' but guns and hillbillies now. I did notice that they are starting a new season of Mythbusters, which would be a hopeful sign if Mythbusters weren't more about blowin' stuff up these days. Maybe they could watch the NASA channel instead?by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
Justice Thomas doesn't do politics? Excuse me, but you don't get to be a Supreme Court justice without doing politics. Gotta cry BS on that statement, which he made about seven times. The justice doth protest too much, methinks.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting

Wuppie! She looks happy and friendly. Congrats! If you need a cheap impromptu toy take an old sweat sock and tie a knot in it. Hours of tugging fun!by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
Costco's service is very good. If you are very sensitive to color you will notice some difference, but if you are just printing stuff, you'll like it just fine. The price is right.by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
I put 16 GB in mine for a little over $100 from OWC. I have the 2.4 ghz i5 and it runs very well now. It is well worth the investment to max the RAM. I run Adobe CS5, Microsoft Office and the usual Mac apps usually.by Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
And Head Start. I am in favor of holding the Mall fireworks, Tall Ships visits, Navy Band concerts, free flags that have flown over the Capitol, etc. hostage to good works. Because while people won't call and complain about a hungry neighbor, they will call and complain about fun stuff. So cut the fun stuff, and keep it cut till Congress finds the funds for the necessary-and-unsexy stuff.by Gutenberg - 'Friendly' Political Ranting
If you take chili powder, a little brown sugar, pepper, paprika, onion powder and garlic powder and stir it up into a dry rub, and apply that dry rub to a pork chop, let it sit for a half hour or so and grill it, it's delicious served with a sweet potato and green veg on the side. Right now I am doing asparagus, but spinach or mixed greens is just as good. You can swab the chop with a little barbby Gutenberg - Tips and Deals
