There is a disturbance in my.. electrical power... Need a UPS ?
#1
As I was looking at the iCraveit weekly deals email this morning, and gazing at the UPS deal they had, eldest son called.

"Dad. Power's out in the house."

Crap. Drove home, dragged out the ancient generator (windings possibly hand-wound by Edison..), said appropriate quantity of prayers and VPTKL words to attempt to start it, and.... the power came back.

So of course I drove back to work, tried to order a UPS or two, and no stock. Argle Fargle Bargle !!! :banghead:

Any recommendations for UPSen ? I'll be looking for a small one to run the digital phone modem and associated network switches and routers in the 'closet', another one for the Cube, and perhaps another one for the 'on' switch for the gas fireplace. Sump pump has a battery backup (memo.. needs a new battery... getting that tonight).

TIA !

Keep an eye on the big box stores, Staples, OD, OM, BB, Fry's, etc... Costco usually has a 1000-1100VA unit for $90-$100 and the others often have 1500VA units for not much more every few weeks, as well as sales on smaller units just about every week. Pick a size and look at the ads in the Sunday paper.

That one's easy, just get a small one for around $35 or so. That stuff won't ever stress it. For the Cube it depends on whether you also want it to power the monitor etc. for a while, but it needn't be very big either. Gonna try to get my next one with USB that OS X natively connects to to read battery life.
