The budget was "balanced" before Walker got in. He ran with lots of pissing and moaning about the accounting methods used, and then promptly adopted those same methods for his own.

Walker has had less time and made more progress towards these ends than Obama has. So Walker busted some union chops in doing. Is that your biggest concern? He didn't say it was going to be easy. And what's wrong with state workers paying a little more for their share of health care and retirement? They still pay far less than the private sector workers and for some it is a wash by paying more for these and no longer paying union dues.

He's made good progress. The Republican house has greatly stymied his efforts however. But we haven't turned into Greece, which is what would happen if the Republicans followed through with their campaign promises. I used to not worry about that happening as what you say you'll do to get elected is different from what actually happens. Saner heads prevail. However, with the moderate Republicans being replaced with idiot tea party types or morons in general, it's a real threat. If you balance the national budget right now, before the economy is solid, this country will go down the tubes fast. Unemployment will rise exponentially. You do not cut back on deferral spending when you have a sluggish economy. That has been proven over and over again.

Were Grace here, she'd remind us that the union was willing to make the concessions in question, but Walker and the legislature cut the union's legs off anyway.

Well said. Bush left us on the verge of a full economic collapse. Just keeping that from happening is huge, and the slow but sure recovery is icing on the cake.

The Wisconsin republican definition of "Fiscal Responsability" is "You will have more money if you don't pay your bills."
