I'll argue with you a bit on that one. Performance-wise, Mac Minis give them a run for their money. If you need expansion, then obviously a Mini isn't the answer.

I had one the earlier C2D Mac Minis and was never really very happy with the performance but I think
it was more the Graphics processor than anything. I'd like to look for something that will a least run
ML if I'm going the Mac Pro way.

Thanks

My first gen Mac Pro has upgraded processors, ram, video and hard drives (runs big circles around the mini) and will run lion but not mountain lion.

My 2.3 GHz G5 4.5 GBs RAM 300 GB RAID 1 is my daily machine. Works for what I do.

I have dual 2.5 G5's running and they are still solid machines, powerful and can get a lot of work done. But a lot of limitations due to the lack of PPC support. For instance, I cannot process RAW files from the Canon 1Dx, 5DIII and many other newer cameras. The problem is that the DNG converter that can convert these is Intel only. so I have to convert these on an intel machine first.

I also feel that the liquid leaking is over stated. The few people who have had problems are vocal while the vast majority of users without any problems quietly keep working.

I have two of them running 24/7 as servers. Packed with 2TB drives and Highpoint raid cards.

No doubt. You definitely got your money's worth and a long lifetime out of those machines. I don't know the exact numbers and probably the majority were fine but there were a lot of problems with the liquid cooled models.

If nothing else, the non-liquid-cooled models never had a problem with leaking coolant. Wink
