Video game companies having problems

I'm a lapsed casual console gamer a couple generations ago.

I've been toying with the idea of buying one of the holiday bundles during BF. The hardware is close to the end of its life-cycle, and should be nearly as cheap as it will get.

The interesting news with this Black Friday ad leak from Radio Shack is the revelation of a 250GB Playstation 3 bundle that comes with both the inFamous Collection and the Uncharted Collection. That's five games total in this bundle for $219.99. Additionally, Radio Shack is giving $40 back in store coupons with the purchase of the PS3.

The Xbox 360 offer is slightly less exciting but still a good deal for bargain hunters. Radio Shack is offering the 4GB Xbox 360 for $169.99 with a free headset and an additional $30 back in store coupons.

Yeah, I saw that. I was leaning more toward an XB, but that leveled the field again.

From what I can tell, it's preferable, if not almost mandatory, to have a hard drive to get the full experience and save hassle, and the 4GB version of the XB is only $30 less than the other XB bundles will be on BF. Cheaper and easier than rolling your own as well. I don't really assign much value to coupons, or other store-captive promotions.

My issue is trying to decide between getting an XB to play Forza, and having to bear the cost of XB Live, as well as a full version of Forza 4 (the bundled copy is limited), or getting a PS3, with no fees, and buying Gran Turismo 5. But, GT is by most accounts a lesser game. I'm not invested in either side, so it's truly an open field.

So, it comes down to Forza vs GT, whether the online play downloadable content is something I'll embrace (I doubt it), and how the experience changes if I don't.

it's too bad the entry level on these is still so high, years after these models were introduced. (yeah, i know they've been tweaked)

Who buys games when they come out?

Teens. My son's world comes to an end if he doesn't have the latest game - whatever will he talk about when he gets together with his buddies?

Me? I've been a one-game man (WoW) for the last five years.
And early 20 some year olds. Not much fun if your friends are playing a game and you have wait six months for the price to drop $20.
