Sources told the ABC7 I-Team one of the women, who was shot in the parking lot, was a doctor at Mercy Hospital reporting to work, and was shot by her former fiance.

About the Chicago hospital shooter:

In 2014, Lopez's ex-girlfriend (not the ex-fiance he killed yesterday) filed a police report saying that he wouldn't stop texting her threats.

Lopez has a valid FOID card and a concealed carry permit. ABC7 Eyewitness News has learned he purchased four weapons in the past five years.

O'Neal, the young doctor Lopez murdered yesterday, broke up with him in September but her family said he "couldn't get over it." He continued to show up at her church, including this past Sunday.

How about - if you're threatening someone you don't get to buy a gun. And it goes on your criminal record. This guy passed a background check for a gov't job in Chicago just last year.

No we can't prevent every act of violence but this type of story repeats over and over and over and over.
