Chromebook screen weirdness...

My HP Chromebook has suddenly started exhibiting strange smudge marks on the screen. At first I thought it was dirt, but they are in the screen. I've never seen anything like it, any ideas what the deal is?

Perhaps dirt in the screen? Perhaps if there's separate glass covering the panel whatever was sealing it has failed allowing dirt and dust to creep in?

After doing some meditating on the John on the issue, it occurred to me that the screen looked as if someone had drawn on it. And then, I realized that I had drawn on it - or rather on a piece of paper which was on the screen for my animation class. While it was only a felt tip marker, water would not wash it away but some 70% alcohol did the job. Oy! I must be getting old.
