Considering some bid specs on an exterior stucco job.

One specifies a terpolymer elastomeric coating, which adds considerably to the cost.

Is this used in lieu of primer, or in addition to primer?

From what I can surmise, it's an additional measure, on top of regular patching, also with elastomeric compounds, then finished with top color coats.

My wife and I recently painted our stucco house (it was pinkish brown) not very sexy. We contacted a local paint place (sherwin williams me thinks) and asked for their suggestions. They offered us two choices for painting stucco. It was like $45 a gallon for one of their paint "grades". We did it ourselves in two days and it looks great. House was built in 2002.
