Apple launches third-party charger trade-in program
#11
Doesn't our sponsor sell genuine Apple chargers sometimes for less than $10?

the truth is they probably still make a profit, those real USB power adapters probably cost apple $5 each.

Yes, just like Apple and Tim Cook to jump upon an opportunity to make some extra money off of a tragic situation. Because making a few extra bucks is what it's all about.

The truth is, whether or not they make $5 or don't lose a penny, they didn't have to do it at all.

There will be those who say Apple is just doing this because they know it was somehow their fault. I'll bet money on that. Even so, this new policy wouldn't get them any free lunch, any leniency in the face of litigation.

It may come to pass that it was Apple kit that was solely responsible, that her actions should not have in any way contributed to her death. Or not. As it's not been established, it's a nice move on Apple's part.

Also, no clear proof that the charger was the cause, or even the iPhone, and if there the outlets in this bathroom had GFI protection.

Clearly seems to be a case that calls for a lot of investigation, people shouldn't be able to be electrocuted in bathrooms these days,

Agreed.

I also think that if this were the fault of a genuine Apple device, that there would be a lot more incidents of shock or electrocution, even without death.

Could this one person be the only example of a "perfect storm" of circumstances that killed her? Or is did she merely inadvertently introduce water and "ground" to an electrical device and suffer tragic consequences. There are millions of home and electrical outlets in kitchens and bathrooms still not protected by GFI.
