iTunes: How to put an MP3 recording into the Podcasts playlist?

I have downloaded some short stories to my PowerBook with the intent to eventually transfer them to my iPod. Up until yesterday I've somehow gotten them into the Podcast playlist. Now I can't do that.

I tried dragging it to the Podcasts name in the Source list from the Library but it won't stay there. If I open a separate Podcasts window and try to drag it there, it won't add either.

What am I missing?

Podcasts are subscribe to from an RSS feed on a website. You can just create another playlist for these files and configure the iPod to include that playlist in the next update. Or you could create a website on your computer and set up an RSS feed and subscribe to it...
