I notice that outside the US, you never see washers/dryers anywhere but the bathroom. Of course, outside the US, there's nearly always a floor drain in the bathroom so it's logical in case of overflows. Not sure why we do things so differently here.

Curious about how you access them for repair / service. Does that counter top come apart easily?

The two-story units in my development have the original laundry room in the basement.
Older folks rip out the garden bathtub in the master bath to make a "no-step-up" large, walk-in shower, also removing the original freestanding corner shower to place washer/dryer (stacked or side by side) so they can live on one level. No need to use the stairs.

I had one in my last house. The laundry room was downstairs, bedrooms were all upstairs so I replaced the washer and dryer with a ventless combo. I can't remember the brand but at the time it was one of the few sold in the US. Now many of the major brands offer them.
