I think politically he was quite to the left, and not a right-wing Trumpie as many here have implied. I occasionally listened to Workers World and stuff that they would talk about, max espoused similar views. Looking at the political spectrum as a circle, he seemed close to the point where the far left meets the far right.

A one-dimensional political spectrum (right-left), which is what we usually use to categorize folks, poorly captures people like max. Or, for that matter, a number of the more colorful voices here.
