War also has a positive effect on profit for gun retailers.

I'm not clicking on a blind link, not even to WaPo.

But if you are saying that mass shootings increase gun sales, that would not be news.

True. Lots of people live in fear or are paranoid. The rest are just gun strokers.

Immediately after a mass murder, the marketing machines owned by the death merchants turn up to 11.

No marketing needed. Everyone knows when seconds count, armed police are just minutes away

Are the new gun sales to people who never had a gun before but will now because of fear for their safety, or to people who already have a gun but buy more because "Now government is going to come for our guns?" This is actually a serious question. Is there a study?

I don't know the answer, though I suspect one. I do have two FB friends who are gun nuts who bought more guns when Obama was elected and after large mass shootings, afraid their guns would be taken away. They're no longer real *friends*, but I keep them to see what they post, and it ain't pretty.

Don't know if the data exists. Do know several Jewish families that are now first time gun owners and may have bought more than 1.
