Leopard Disk Utility?
#1
What is the latest Disk Utility?
I did a dirty install, and have version 11. It hangs when I attempt to initialize a FW or USB hd for Time Machine.

Plugging the same external disk into an old iBook, I can reformat the same HD.

My G5, dual-core 2.3 mhz, is working great with Leopard, but external hard drives are not being seen, or only "partly" seen -/ they show up in Disk Utility, but not in sidebar or desktop (which they are set to do in preferences.)

Leopard version is 11 build 252

How are they partitioned?

Something is causing previously stable external drives to become unreadable, and un-reformattable. Disk Utility goes to endless spinning beachball when I attempt to make one partition out of two.

I have 6 OWC drives here, partitioned in various ways.

- FW 800, in an OWC aluminum case, 500 GB Seagate - one partition (movies)
- FW 800, in an OWC aluminum case, 400 GB Seagate - one partition (Drive Genius clone of main HD)
- Another FW 800 clone that I am not plugging in, keeping it safe.

- USB/FW OWC mini stack - 300 GB, two 150 partitions
- USB/FW OWC mini stack - 2 partitions
- USB/FW OWC mini stack

Doing the install to Leopard, I unplugged all the various FW and USB external drives. The install went fine, with the exception of a minor keychain issue. Then after the computer ran for awhile, I plugged a couple of the external drives in.

Disk Utility saw the FW 800 movie drive, but it would not mount. I plugged another FW 800 case into the back of that case, and the computer mounted the second one.

Then I turned them both off, rebooted, and the Mac saw both drives.
The Mac is a dual 2.3 G5 tower.

On two different OWC mini stacks, that were partitioned, Disk Utility hangs when attempting to make one partition.

On one of these, I plugged the drive into an iBook and repartitioned it from there (in Tiger) and the drive was fine, then I plugged it into the G5 and it worked fine.

The other drive hangs Disk Utility on the iBook also.

I have NO idea what is going on!

I'm troubled with some external Firewire drives not mounting. They worked for about a day after I archive & installed Leopard. I ejected them to try to get a Canopus ADVC55 to work and now they won't mount. Disk Utility locks up trying to find them. There are a few discussions about this on Apple discussions, I have to reboot to get Disk Utility to quit most of the time.

G5 1.8 dual - various FW drives Metal Gear, Apower, no name - all worked fine in Tiger
