Battery life on MB lower since software update

Beginning of the week I ran Software Update on my 2GHz Core 2 Duo 13" black Macbook running 10.4.11. Now it seems as if the fan is running constantly, and the battery life seems to go more quickly with just average usage. I did calibrate the battery. Anything I should be checking or reseting after the recent updates (including the Firmware Update)? Thanks for all suggestions.

Have you looked at Activity Monitor to see if something is chewing up a lot of CPU time? That might give a clue as to what might be causing it.
