Yesterday one of my co-workers brought a 1944 pamphlet his father was given as a young Construction Battalion Engineer being mobilized to Rouen.. he landed D-Day plus 6.

The language was quite folksy, and the discussion on how VD is a "weapon of Hitler's" was quite entertaining.

I've written manuals with that sort of language for our factory workers. The people that gave me feedback loved it.

"You write like we think ! Most of those guys write like professors !"

It's HARD to write at a 5th grade level. I find that if I think about the word choices in another language, then use the English equivalent, it's easier... I'm not very fluent in any other language.

Great stuff. Seems like a dangerous world back in the '40s where a simple bike ride resulted in being crippled for life or death.

In fairness I didn't use a terribly descriptive subject line.

Interesting how it's never the motorist's fault.

Apparently 1940's motorists had the same sort of appalling safety record as an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine.
