External Drive Power Adapters
#1
I have several externals which parted ways with their power adapters during a recent move. Assorted brands, my question is what is the best way to find (or match)adapters? Some are no longer made (or at least sold).

LaCie you can order from their website. All others, take the device to radio shack and get generic adapters.

The Shack....adapters are about all they are useful for at this point. I firmly expect them to stop selling all the power adapters and replace them with 3 feet of cellphone cases in the near future. I still can't figure out why they are still in business.

I agree. The only thing I've bought at Radio Shack in the last 10+ years is a humidistat, and the only reason was because they were clearancing them out. I needed one to put in a guitar case, to check on humidity levels. I was disappointed when I saw that they hardly sell any electronic "parts" anymore.

There are variable choices like this from Amazon. I have found a few at Frys if they are local.

Many external 3.5" enclosures that I have come with fairly non-standard power connectors with multiple pins, presumably supplying more than one voltage. I don't think those universal adapters with different tips will be suitable for situations like this.
