Interesting. I wonder how processor intensive this is compared to things like AAC. I recently read that only 1.8 minutes of 8k video will fit on a Blu-ray disc.

FWIW, it sounds processor intensive. But then again we used FPGA's back in the late 1980's to do FFT work for military applications. You know, back when Megahertz in processor speed was a big thing ?

The big question is whether it is processor intensive to compress, vs processor intense to decompress and display. I'm less concerned about compression time if it can display full screen full res decompressing on the fly without needing a hardware decoder.
