This is the original iPad, correct? And with iOS5?
When connected via USB put a checkmark in iTunes to allow for syncing over WiFi and I think you have to sync that way once more. The Mac should now see the iPad wirelessly.
In the iPad's Settings (General?) look for iTunes WiFi syncing. It says it only works when the iPad is on the charger but you can do a manual sync without the charger.
Whatever was checkmarked back in iTunes, including your music, will copy/sync over wirelessly to the iPad.
But like I said above, this takes longer than via USB.
Edit: OK I see from your post elsewhere this is for the new iPad, which might sync faster over WiFi. Keep in mind however that if the Mac is also on WiFi your WiFi bandwidth between the two might be saturated and slow the transfer down, or if the distances away from the router slow WiFi down (which will happen) whereas USB won't have that potential issue.
Thanks for the info. My original problem was that I couldn't get into the settings on the laptop for the iPad, because it wouldn't see the iPad, even when connected, grrrr. Now, after hours of updates, it does see the new iPad, so I moved some music over while I had it attached. I saw that sync over WiFi check box, but I wasn't sure I wanted to do that, so I left it off. I don't want all my music on my iPad, so I don't have it set to auto sync. I will have to look into the sync over WiFi further. Thanks again.
