My tap water is now disgusting

HOW can you flush any runs of pipe on the ?other" side of the meter? IF you mean just turn the water on and the flow will flush both sides of the meter, then you expressed it in a confusing way,

I would call your local water district/department, and ask if they can test your water (FROM YOUR TAP, not from the supply side on the OTHER side of the new meter).
They may no, or try to charge you for the testing... I would not take that as an answer in your position.
Either that, or I'd bring a bottle of your tap water to their office, and request they drink it. Politely, of course.

That, at least, may open some useful communication....

My other idea involves the same water in a super-soaker... but it's probably better to try other avenue's first :-)

I talked to the guys who did the install, and they say it's because of a glue that they use.

And will it ever go away?
