After not reading instructions (I guess) I let garagesale do the update to 5.01 which, turns out, is a paid update.

Well now, I cannot get the program to do anything. I've gone back to the older version and still the program crashes. I think I've uninstalled all the pieces and restarted, reinstalled but nothing seems to work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

PS: I'm waiting an a reply from the developer. Just thought someone else had an idea.

there's a yahoo group for garagesale and this type of question has been asked in the last few weeks. the developers also respond to the list. i think you can read posts w/o being a member so i recommend searching there.

Thanks graylocks,

I've looked there but didn't see my problem.

Hopefully the developer will get back to me quickly.

I own 2 licenses for garage sale and got bitten by the Automatic update installing the download to the new paid version on one of my Macs too.

Needless to say I was not very happy about it and I wrote to the developers a short rant about the fact that they encourage users to use the automatic update function to stay current and the there was no warning about the new version upgrade being "paid" andasking if I want to continue. Unfortunatly once you have upgraded to the latest version ther is no way to "downgrade" . Essentially you are stuck paying for the update to continue using the software if you don't want to lose all of your history and previous templates.

Thats just wrong. I am lucky in that my upgrade was free, but if I got burned I would be pissed.

Well, I did trash everything, installed version 3.4.3 and I finally got it to work. Had to click thru all the windows and let it load in trial mode before entering my old #.

In defense of the developer.....the upgrade does have the notice in bold "that this upgrade is a paid upgrade" for those upgrading from version 3. If you paid for version 4, then the upgrade is free.

I don't use it a lot but when I need it, it sure is handy Smileo

Yes but if you have your preferences set to automatically download and install all updates in the background (as mine were, but no longer are) then you never got to see this "warning".

FWIW v5 update came out today and yes there is some bolded text in the description that warns the user that this is a paid upgrade from v3 but is free for users of v4, I still feel that this warning should be in Red or Yellow or something to get the users attention.
