Hey now! My neighbor while I was growing up had a Gremlin X. Came stock with a V-8 304. He swapped in a 401. Scary fast car. Had the Levi Strauss denim interior. Those copper rivets were darn hot in the summer, and painful if you sat on them in shorts.

The denim was great, but damn, those rivets got really hot in the Georga summer sun. The thing was fast, because of the HP to weight ratio, but the whole car would shake if you went over 80. It was especially dangerous because of the extreme weight up front and no trunk to hold the rear down to the road. I as heard of people carrying a few cement blocks in the hatch area, for better traction. I got it new in 1972 and unfortunately it was totaled in 1978 when going down a very slight hill at only about 40 miles per hour. I applied the brakes, they locked down, probably thanks to the limited slip and the horrible front to rear weight ratio, car went off the road to the right, and turned over in the ditch. Luckily, I wasn't hurt, but the car was a total loss. I really liked the way the car looked, but I think every part under the hood was made by a different supplier. The automatic choke never worked right, and the dealer could never get it fixed for the long run. I finally wound up carring a pair of needle nosed pliers so, in the winter especially, I could enrich the mix, till the car warmed up, then I would have to get out and turn the screw back to lean it out, so it would run. Real pain in the butt. I think I may still have the big locking gas cap with the little metal Gremlin over the latch. I need to look around my mom's house and see if I can find it. I'll bet the guys on American Pickers would like to have it. ![]() ![]() Whippet, Whippet Good

Imagine a modified 401 from a Matador in something that small :driving:

They've been no superfluous characters in this series.
Hm. That may be changing. A gremlin with a light bar AND a spotlight! The latter made me laugh more. ...with a 5 liter V8, limited slip differential, and the Levi's package. I think I may still have a round Levi 'brand' on the back of my thigh. God, you are SOOOO hot! according to a google image search, she does. There's pics of rg in a thong on Google?? I CAN'T FIND THEM!!! Racer, I'll PM you for the link!! |
