- Pelosi asked Milley to keep the codes from Trump, further adding that she's waiting on Pence and Co to act on their "oath of office" and remove Trump
- Ronna McDaniel reaffirmed to run the RNC, at their meeting which apparently contained no worries overall about the attack on Congress nor the president's role in any of this
- “Let’s be rational about this,” said Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.), suggesting that there were not enough Republican senators willing to quickly remove Trump from office. “Why go through the exercise again if it’s going to be futile?”
Thanks Joe, for misunderstanding what it means to lead? All this time I had no idea that votes only mattered when you were sure of the outcome! He's barely worth anything here. Might as well elect a Republican, since he's continually on the fence anyway. Or ... maybe a stronger Dem could actually attract Democrats in the otherwise deplorable-rich W. VA.

Maybe he should have posed that question to Trump.

I get fed up with Manchin a lot, but the reality is that without him in the Senate now, Mitch McConnell would still be in charge for the next two years.

Exactly. We can't get a senator from WVa to emulate a senator from CA or NY, MA, etc, we have to take what it is for now. Doesn't dismiss his votes, but when he's gone, that seat could go back to being R. And he'll be one of those senators to whom Biden will have to kowtow to a certain extent, to keep the majority intact on legislation.

I won't deny the realities of Manchin's situation. I will however wonder if he spends his time avoiding conservatives in W. VA, or if he avoids liberals.
If the opposites are true I'd be pleasantly surprised.
A more brave, rational statement might be, "This is a tempting exercise Speaker Pelosi, but I need to let you know that many voters in W. VA would disagree with me if I did that.
Let either side do their thing. If there aren't enough Dems in W. VA to grow his constituency in the times and for the issues that are critical, then again, what is the point? A temporary reprieve? Yay.

Manchin is also preemptively stopping the proposed stimulus increase (the mythical $2,000 checks).
He has the power now to push a more liberal agenda. But he's playing like he'll lose his Senate seat if he does. Given that he might not be able to both keep his seat and support Democrats, that effectively now makes him a Republican.
All irony remains lost, given that the checks could be $10,000 or whatever and it still wouldn't dent the Treasury. They're fighting for scraps while ignoring the larger federal monies that should be spent on localities, all in the name of a vote.

Give him time. Joe M is not a strong personality IMHO, and I do believe he's trying to do the best for both his country and his constituents.
Once there is a new President, a WOC VP, and a new leader in the Senate to take the heat - Joe will be fine.

But then people might realize that receiving $2000 a month really helps them and doesn't den't the treasury. Then we're baby-killing, gun-grabbing socialist liberals with UBI. How dare you insinuate such a thing!
