It's not unlike a collector, who scours the shops and flea markets for treasures, then puts those prizes in the closet where they never see the light of day until the heirs liquidate the estate.

The thrill is in the hunt; the possession is secondary.

Audio recordings on physical media can be that way, to possess a reference library you’ll never actually have time to hear.

The artwork on albums, and even the disks themselves, are sometimes worth the having all by themselves. Styx Paradise Theater has a beautiful holo laser etching mimicing the album art. A number of Heart's disks are either colored vinyl, and I believe one is red vinyl in the shape of a heart. I grew up with Heart's drummer 2 blocks away, and his little brother was a classmate. I watched them practice all the time in Michael's basement, so their music holds a special meaning to me.

I know one of the Beatles' albums is apple green.
