Anybody have a good cranberry sauce substitute?
#11
I can't find the recipe but it had orange juice, orange zest and ginger (which you can easily omit.) I know it also had pomegranate juice.

Sorry I couldn't be more help but like I said, I think you can take your favorite cranberry recipe and just use pomegranate seeds/kernels and juice wherever you would have used cranberries. You might also think about adding in cherries (fresh or dried). The are a great balance to pomegranate IMHO.

Hope your holidays are happy despite the last minute substitution!

Thanks dmann. That was very helpful. I think I can take it from here.

Alphadog, you're correct about the warfarin and I do know about the consistency rule with Vitamin K containing foods. However, the cranberries aren't banned because they have Vitamin K. They have a substance called coumarin which has the same effect as warfarin, and so can cause you to essentially overdose on warfarin, which as you are probably aware is a very bad thing.

Alphadog, In answer to your question about monitoring, I've been having daily blood tests for a while since my INR (warfarin effectiveness) stayed low for too long then suddenly shot up too high. On top of that I've had to keep on doing daily self injections with Arixtra until the warfarin dose stabilized. I am extremely thankful (as are the multiply jabbed parts of my body) that things seem to be evening out and both of those regimes have stopped as of today, so I don't have to have another blood test until monday. Hallelujah!...4 whole days without getting jabbed. I'm feeling very empathetic to diabetics at this point.
