I know it's a cop out, but I think the problem goes deeper than gun availability. I think our society is sick. Look at how many of those children who die commit suicide. Substance abuse, neglect, etc. It's not easy stuff. kj.

Yes, that is a total cop out and I can't let you get away with throwing up your hands and saying society is sick without making any constructive suggestion.

If you think the population needs to be armed explain why and how this can continue yet at the same time how can the carnage be reduced. The pile of dead bodies is mounting.
I don't know that this can be discussed in a way that benefits anyone, but this is a violent world. Being weak is not that same as being peaceful. I think anyone who thinks we'll never need guns/weapons is naive. I'll point at all of history as proof. Weakness does not work.

What if _you_ decided to go to gun shows with a poster of every child who has been killed this year by guns, and said essentially, "I want people to be able to have guns, but if you don't handle them safely, bad things happen." Why don't more people care enough to actually do something? Why does it have to be the government? Why does it have to be so drastic as a complete disarmament?

Hal, I don't think anyone should have to die. But we make those choices every day. Cars kill a lot of people. We don't need to have cars (again, ask Black). Every day you get into your car, you are making the choice of taking a chance of seriously hurting or killing someone. You decide it's worth it. That's how it is. kj.
