Thought it was interesting that the website states that the video is in Japanese. No problem understanding the video. The audio is a different story though.

They announced on the news this morning that both dogs were safe. Several of the news reports showing people in shelters showed that they had their pets with them - the Japanese are very protective of their animals.

That's what pack 'buds do...

Exactly.

Like a feral mother cat protecting her kittens, many animals protect "friends" and humans alike.

Now why is it so difficult for us to have that ultimate loyalty, compassion and trust for our human beings? We, after all, are the most civilized and intelligent of all species. Thanks for posting.

Maybe because sometimes instinct trumps intellect.

I think that most of us would agree that cats are not "pack buds" but I have seen them do things for "friends" that would amaze you.

"instinct"? Maybe but I think that may be a bit simplistic and intellectually lazy.

Of course you do.

But it's far more accurate than anthropomorphizing, which while more romantic, is overly simplistic and intellectually lazier still.

We will continue to disagree.

We still do not know much about how animals think nor feel nor even have a soul therefore ...
