I went to Preferences in Firefox and found nothing about Java in the Security tab. I found "Enable Java Script" in the Contents tab-shoulld I uncheck that?

In Firefox, you disable the Java plugin in the Tools > Add-ons > Plugins settings.

Thanx. I see Shockwave Flash there too. Disable that also?

so The Mac Observer whipped up Safe Download Version...

hmmm, Mac Observer listed it back in 2011 but it is still available on MacUpdate

I can confirm it still works under 10.8.2 {12C54} !

Only if you enjoy a fast and efficient browser with a small memory-footprint and a computer that runs speedy and cool.

i recently read a article that Shockwave for Director is rarely used, and unless you are using sites that require it, it should ideally be disabled.

i've disabled it on my Macs.

With this security update, Apple added an option to the "General" tab of the "Security" System Preferences panel labeled "Automatically update safe downloads list".

I see nothing under GENERAL tab under System Pref. in ML

Samintx, carefully read decay's post. to wit:

The first method is to click on the Apple menu and
select "System Preferences..." and then from the main window
click on Security (& Privacy), then
click on the General tab

Under 10.8, you will then click on the Advanced button in the lower right corner, there you will find "Automatically update safe downloads list".
