Where's the buzz about Elon Musk's "hyperloop" high speed rail alternative?

We just spent a billion dollars adding a car pool lane to 10 miles of I-405 in Los Angeles. I'd say High Speed Rail is cheap. The good thing is can't stop it now. I say do a 30 mile demonstration of the Hyperloop.

No, it's not cheap... the I-405 car pool lane at 100 million dollars a mile is just another example of moronically expensive.

However, the idea of a 30 mile demonstration line isn't bad. Except it might have to be more like 50 miles... I'm not sure it would even be up to speed in 30 miles!
Yeah, they should do from downtown San Francisco to the new 49er's stadium in Santa Clara. They could do some package delivery courier services on the side.

Ya know Black, if the title of your thread "[Musk] Follow-up to testicle-biting/upstream swimming fish thread" is so very obtuse that nobody can figure out with what the thread is about, don't expect that anyone interested in a particular topic will find it. Your only thread title clue is "Musk", which sounds like it might be a type of fish or a fish-repellent perfume, not anything to do with futuristic transportation.

A little touchy today, are we?
I am sorry a thread with "Musk" in the subject line was so very obtuse...
perhaps this thread might be more to your liking?

davester, I think the best line would be LA to Vegas. Individual people (no giraffes) move all the time. The landscape in between is a lot of unpopulated desert. Both terminuses can handle the influx and outflow of people.

'Releases' like this are to build buzz. That's fine. The engineering can be done, but... it's a challenge.

Not touchy at all. I just thought you might want some input as to why folks (myself included) weren't clicking on that thread if they weren't interested in fish. Your newer thread link has a much better title.

Agreed. I had no idea that thread was about the Hyperloop, and had no inclination to click through to find out more.

Include a third "rail" with nothing but water flowing south in it, and you'll have at least the bottom half of the state ready to pay for it…

It is an interesting idea. The high speed rail is a boondoggle at best.

Not at all. Fortunately, it's cleared for takeoff. How come stuff like this works in other countries but it can't work here? What's wrong with us? They're not better than us.
