And if you have an external monitor and kb, the base model M4 Mac mini is a great value.

The 16/256 configurations is pretty good for a lot of people, either light users or those who offload to iCloud.

The 256G is comprised of two chips, so it shouldn't have the slower performance found in other Macs with only single chip 256G internal storage.

And it always possible to add external storage.

I'd prefer the 16/512 or maybe the mP4's 24/512, to reduce offload intervals.

I assume a capacity of an external to be Stated - 20% = X

yeppers.

I'm thinking about replacing a relative's long in the tooth iMac with a new Mini plus external monitor.

Any reasonably-priced favorites?

And I still keep around several older MBPs running 10.6.8 to play PPC games.

Bill,

See my posts about Innocn displays. Dollar for dollar, great displays at a solid price point. I have two of them in place now and I can definitely recommend them. One thing you'll want to add aside from a keyboard and pointing device is external speakers. If you want cheap and basic, this model from Cyber Acoustics does the job:

It will not attach to the bottom of the Innocn 27M2V display at my office. Instead, you leave it on the desk, just below it. The base of the bar raises it just a teensy bit higher than the base of the Innocn 27M2V. So, it fits nicely over it. Not sure if it would do that with the Innocn 27C1U at my parent's house.

I have the 27M2V at my office connected via USB-C. The soundbar is connected to the display via USB. Audio is controlled via the Mini.

I'm never going back to a Mac.

A Power Mac 7200, specifically.

All the others I've owned were great.

I started using a Mac in 1992 while working in Creative Services at my hometown newspaper. I bought my first home Mac in 1996. Here is my list of Macs:

Performa 6400/180
Power Mac 9500/200
PowerBook G3 250hz,
Power Mac G4 450 Sawtooth
Power Mac G5 200 DP
MacPro 1,1
MacPro 5,1
MacBook Pro 2015,13" i7 3.1

I quit freelancing in 2012. Changed careers and didn't feel the pressure/need to have the latest, fastest Mac.

I currently have a i7 13700K Z790 Windows 11 PC primarily used for gaming. My older MacPros still work.

Never heard of 'Innocn' displays. How do you pronounce it?

At some point I'll likely need to replace my 2015 27" iMac, and if Apple doesn't make another one, that might mean a Mini + display. The thing about the 27" iMac displays: you can't approach them with stand-alones for short money. I have a second display, a 27" Dell, not the highest end, and it's OK, but not nearly as good as the almost 10-year-old iMac's.

The IBM PC command-line interface was a mystery to me. The Mac SE with its graphical interface in 1987 was a revelation: I could see the drives and folders!

I've had SEs (still have two that run);
IIfx*
IIci*
Performa 5000 (?—road Apple, bought for daughter)
Blueberry iBook (also for daughter)*
UMAX J-700 clone (gave to son)
G4 iMac ('lampshade')*
G4 MB Pro (son's)*
TiBook (given to second son)
plus another MBP or two, now at second son's house: grandkids using

* still have

Current:
mid-2015 iMac 27" i5
early-2015 MBAir i5

I was business/operations guy for my wife's medical practice, one of the first in the area to use Electronic Medical Records (eClinical Works). Required a lot of used PCs running Windows 95, plus a server running Windows NT (2000) Server software. A lot of that stuff is still in my basement. Man, I hated Windows!

I pronounce it "innocent" without the 't', so, innocen. whatever you choose is fine.

I just set up my Innocn 27" (Robert M's recommendation sold me) and it's very nice indeed.
I got the raised stand version to straddle my M1mini and keyboard. It's currently running 2560x1600 but it is 3840x2160 capable (text is too small for my old eyes ... adjustment needed ...)
