How to (almost) steal a new 12 core Mac Pro from Amazon with an unintended assist from me
#21
LOL, two more tries, possibly the scammer wondering why his Mac Pro wasn't delivered:

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you never received this order. Please let us know whether
you'd like a replacement for this order or whether you'd prefer a refund.

If you'd like a replacement, please confirm the address below.

Here's the address we have:

Suite K25385 13820 NE Airport Way
Portland, OR 97230
United States

I've verified that your replacement order has been canceled and you have not
been charged. Since the order has been canceled, it will no longer appear in
Your Account.

When you place an order shipped and sold by Amazon.com or one of our merchant
partners, we contact your bank for a purchase authorization to verify your card
but don't actually charge you until the order ships. Some banks may hold funds
in your account for these authorizations for between 48 hours and 30 business
days even if the order is canceled. Orders from our Marketplace sellers may be
charged at the time of purchase.

You'll need to contact your bank for assistance. They can tell you why funds on
your account may be unavailable and clarify how long they hold payment
authorizations for online orders.

If you still need help, please contact us again:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/contact-us

We hope to see you again soon.

Best regards,
Genevieve A.

If the scammer is still contacting Amazon, are their fraud people working with police to track him down? They could ship a carton of worthless junk to the address in Portland, and see if it's claimed or forwarded, and go from there.

Yes, Amazon's CS has referred it to its investigative team. I imagine it is a slow process. But I just contacted Amazon CS a minute ago and they are making a note to not reship the computer and to not add the scammer's address to my account. Amazon's CS can be a bit too customer friendly, at least in this case.

Take them up on the refund offer. Smile

It's amazing that they don't first check the tracking of the original shipment to see that it actually was delivered months ago, before offering any of these options.

How about a huge box about the size of a mac pro, with Amazon logos, and inside all there is is some bricks and a photocopy of Speedy's bum...

I could use his address as a way to dispose of my old G5. Do they make XXXL photocopiers?

The scammer is persistent. If he was this dedicated to a real job he wouldn't need to be a scammer. So far he has added his name three times to my account but none successfully today although he has made at least two more attempts (however usually he tries to get the Mac Pro resent first so more likely those contacts today were unsuccessful attempts at getting a new shipment.)

The thought crossed my mind to have it shipped to me to get the scammer excited and then refuse it. But I don't want to hassle Amazon that way. Nor do I want a visit from my local police department.

I suspect Amazons database doesn't show my actual signature, perhaps just that it was delivered. I've had a couple of packages tracked as delivered but they never made it including one from the forum sponsor that was sent vis UPS but the last mile was USPS and unfortunately our mail carrier isn't that reliable. Our neighbors get our mail including packages and we theirs. We sort it out amongst ourselves. But sometimes the mail goes who knows where. I can think of a very plausible story a scammer could tell to explain the delay in reporting the non-receipt.

If Amazon offered a way for me to contact people who left reviews I would contact the few other people who reviewed and were "Amazon Verified Purchase" to warn them.
