And a sideways view of the poll results shows what Apple thinks about people upgrading their computers.

I haven't bought a new computer from Apple since 2006. The last used one I bought is a 5,1 Mac Pro. Already upgraded a bunch of things in it: added SSD, Blu-Ray burner, USB 3 card, etc

I stocked up in 2012, when I couldn't afford to, and again in 2014 when I could. Nothing newer than 2012 models in the house, and I am contemplating a used silver MP as the next purchase if my current Mac Pro goes belly up.
I have to admit that I am really disheartened by Apple's draconian cycle of half-baked OS "upgrades" and the sometimes pathetically bad or pointlessly dumbed down applications or obfuscated to look minimal UI design (iTunes, the iOS Music app, etc.). The hardware direction is very depressing, too.

Hmmm, the poll results indicate there are more MAVICs than we were previously aware of. Been cloning yourself? :ROTFL:

I voted "I'm MAVIC" - I haven't bought a new Mac in the last five years because I could upgrade it. HDD, SSDs, RAM, video card...

Is it not time for some enterprising startup to go after the increasingly disenchanted Mac users? Or is the industry so mature now that there is no way to replicate the Mac or Windows professional capabilities with a new OS? Can any Linux version run Adobe software? Or Filemaker Pro?
I am not doing any heavy lifting these days, so am tempted to pick up a small laptop and try Ubuntu. After nearly 30 years, it may be hard to wean myself from the Mac OS, but maybe it's time.
