Yeah, sorry about the damaged art. The carpet is nothing compared to that.

there it was. It's a townhouse so there's a shared wall. Little old ladies who couldn't hear it. Thought the clothes washer had an issue so they've been sucking up the water for hours apparently. Called a plumber but they hadn't arrived yet.
Sorry about the damage.
I can't figure out what the above means though.

Their hot water heater had burst and it was still constantly filling at full blast, but pouring out as fast as it could go in. The women who live there couldn't hear the water pouring out. They thought maybe the clothes washer and leaked out and didn't know the water was still pouring in.

I see. I can't imagine there's not a shutoff at the water heater.

I think the problem seems to have been that they didn't know it was the water heater and so never tried to shut it off.

Not only that but they didn't know the water was still pouring into the room.
