looks like a slam dunk to me:

A formal complaint has been filed accusing the California Fish and Game Commission president who shot a cougar in Idaho of violating state law by accepting a free hunt, complete with dogs and a tracker.

Daniel Richards, a San Bernardino County Republican who has been a commissioner since 2008, was allowed to go on the hunt and shoot the cat without paying - a package that usually costs $6,800, according to the complaint filed with the California Fair Political Practices Commission.

Kathy Bowler, the former executive director of the California Democratic Party, filed the complaint, citing state law limiting gifts to elected officials and state commission appointees to a maximum of $420 a year. Bowler also complained that Richards did not report the gift to the FPPC. Under state law, gifts must be reported within 30 days.

The ethics complaint looks legit and would apply even if he had not killed anything. Funny how he got himself into this mess by posting a photo on a blog.

it's that stupid grin! Honestly - just reading an outline of the story didn't phase me. It was the description of the treed cat in combo with that stupid smile that turned me against this guy.

The next couple of generations will laugh at us mercilessly for our stupidity and the internet.

Don't look up any photos of hunters with their dead wolves.
Same pose, same grin, only the dead animal is endangered and barely making a comeback. Legal to hunt them in Idaho.
I don't like the mountain lion photo either or the manner in which he was killed, it's very inhumane, but at least they are not endangered. His cousin the eastern cougar was driven to extinction a while ago through over-hunting, but the common mountain lion made a comeback due to conservation efforts.
It's ironic that these people operate a 14K acre big game ranch and they're allowed to shoot any mountain lion on the property as a "threat." Probably a threat because they kill the other animals that hunters themselves would like to kill. It's crazy.

If you don't like killing cougars then don't kill a cougar.

Ford had it right, they killed the entire Cougar line a decade ago.
