I'm watching Good Luck Charlie with my 8 year old daughter (what could be better?) and I notice the star of the show has a huge boom box over her bed. I didn't know they even made such things anymore.

For those that are interested, that's in the "Earth, Wind, And Fire" advertisement for Panasonic.

Boom boxes came in all sizes. Fisher, of all companies, made a small one with a micro-cassette recorder, with stereo. The recorder part popped out, so it could be more easily lost.
