Strategy for giving away 8 rusty bicycles.
#1
Have 8 old bicycles that I have picked up over the years. Are these worth putting on Craigslist for curbside pick up? I know some folks like to fix things up or at least use them for parts. There is plenty of rust.

Includes adult and kids bikes, Nishiki, Murray, Sears, etc...

OK to include a text number or just use the contact via relayed email?

Or should I just see if someone wants them for scrap (steel and aluminum). My neighbor takes scrap metal all the time.

Put them in locations where a bike thief would likely be working.

Good idea.

Some bike thieves are rather picky. How many are out looking for fixer-uppers? Doesn't sound like a quick easy way to make a buck, it sounds like work.

Curb-alerts on craigslist can attract rubber-neckers and pickers. You probably don't want to bother with phone calls and emails from jerks your wonderful thoughtful neighbors.

How about a local bike shop that does some charity work sales and fixer-uppering ?

There's a bike shop near me that does some fixies for a 2nd hand store that the proceeds go to local charities and food banks.
They throw a lot of bikes that just aren't worth fixing out but they do get some keepers.

I will make some calls looking for such a place locally

Place them on the curb with a 'Free' sign and maybe one or two will go. Then place an ad on Craigslist with a pic of the collection and your address.

Geez, in many cities, bike-oriented charitable organizations would love them, even rusty.

That's the first place I'd check out. I suspect you're not going to get much money selling them.

Our local bicycle co-op would take them. They piece together bikes for kids at christmas. If there's anything left, they'd get used for projects, like behind the bike trailers. Check and see if there's one in your area.

Will do. I do not want any money. Just trying to find a home for them.
