Does it have to be Lenovo? Toshiba had some 1.7 GHz laptops on closeout yesterday and today at Best Buy for $400. I almost sent this to you for your brothers friend but it had been long enough that I figured he already bought something.

The T series used to be one of the better grades of their laptop line.

I didn't see anything but T61s in the refurb list. We had several of them but mostly T42s. The T42s were sought after and the T61s were generally overlooked. Seems they had more problems than the T42s and after a few months, most folks with T61s tried to swap them for T42s. YMMV.
After using Thinkpads for several years, I wouldn't consider another brand of PC. If only the Mac laptops used a ThinkPad keyboard - wishful thinking.

Filliam H. Muffman,
I did forward the ad you PM'ed me but his friend decided to get a more expensive machine. I have to check out the Tosh in person because of the one my brother has. Even our old Dell Inspiron 6000 didn't have that many plastic parts and still it's heavy.

Many forum members highly recommended Thinkpad therefore ...

I wish there was some way to run Windows on a Mac. That'd be cool.

I wish no one was cursed with the blight that is Abscess.

But buying a MacBook, a copy of Parallels or VMWare, and a copy of XP isn't the right path for everyone, and certainly isn't the cheapest.

Kap - might your friend consider this? http://www.buy.com/prod/ibm-thinkpad-t42...09095.html

I have no idea what shape these "refurbs" are in, but this is the model everyone had at work (unless they had a T61 and those people wanted a T42). They are all but bulletproof - we dragged them everywhere with lids open and they ran often 10 - 12 hours a day.
