is that how the ocean floor looks like, with all those "spikes"? some of those are islands? they seems so fragile when you see how tall but thin they are

I suspect the vertical elevations are exaggerated in scale.

No, it doesn't look like that. The image has a massive amount of vertical exaggeration.
