New or Refurb MBP?
#1
Thinking of getting a new MBP. Right now I have a 2ghz C2D 15", and I'm thinking of going with a 13". First, will I be in culture shock going from a 15 to a 13? Also, if I go with the 13, is there any reason to choose the 2.8ghz model vs the older 2.7ghz model? The only difference I see is processor and the hard drive (which will be replaced anyway at some time).

I had a C2D 13" and I found it usable but small. I am currently looking at both, but leaning towards
15". I have been watching the Apple refurb store and Powermax. I hope to be ready to make the purchase
by next month. The timing of deals and availability will be important for me.

I find my wife's 13" MBP a terrific machine. But the screen is just a little too small.

I guess if I were to 'downsize' from this 15", I would go all the way and get a 13" MBA.

Me personally, the only reason I'd buy a new model would be if it was cheaper than the refurb.

I have the 2.7 i7 and it's an absolute screamer. I think the video is updated in the latest model, but that wouldn't be reason enough for me.

Culture shock of reduced screen real estate would probably be overwhelmed by the amazing speed and beautiful led backlit display.

Put a fast drive or SSD in and 16gb and you're SET!

I personally prefer a 13" to the 15" because I like the portability. But that is a personal choice only you can make, so don't take our word for it.

as for new vs refurb -- absolutely no reason not to go with refurb; the warranty is identical and 2.7 vs 2.8 is negligible. Save the money

Refurb
I've bought 6 or so refurbed Apple products - never an issue. Usually sell at 15%-20% off new.
They come with exactly the same warranty as new including AppleCare options.
My refurb Mac Pro came with an undocumented upgrade - 2nd optical drive.
