Sanford, FL police chief resigns, court records to be unsealed possibly this week, apology FAIL

Would have been difficult for him to continue as a leader with this level of controversy. At least one other resignation of a high ranking person in that department is anticipated.

Will be interesting to see if the judge allows case records to be unsealed, against the wishes of the prosecutor but in the face of pressure from media. That would include autopsy results, medical reports on Zimmerman, witness interviews, etc.

Z's bond release seems reasonable to me although apparently it very much upset Trayvon's parents. His attorney has made arrangements for him to live out of state while the case moves forward.

Worst of all was that manufactured, non-apology to Trayvon's parents during the bond hearing. He didn't know Trayvon was a minor? So if he'd known, he would not have shot him? Wouldn't have followed him at all? What? I thought that entire statement was really odd, though obviously approved by his attorney.

My impression of Zimmerman's apology was it was an effort to say "I am not a monster" that was not written as well as it should have been.

As for the rest of it, now that justice has been served and Zimmerman has been arrested, I kind of wish the media would lay off of this case. There's no reason for the public to have access to all the case records, we aren't on the jury so it's just rubbernecking. But I know they love a good murder trial so fat chance.

I agree that it would be good if the records remain sealed at this point.
Tough call for the judge in a case like this.

My guess is that they'll do a partial release but not things like the autopsy report.

one certainly wouldn't want any sort of truth or fact to cloud all the agendaized speculation

Why pander to ghouls? Who cares if they are speculating? The movement to convince people he should be arrested is over. It's now in the hands of the legal system, just as it should have been all along.

Per the attorney it was Zimmerman's idea. It was a direct response to questions the mother asked in one specific interview that was widely aired. Do you recall the interview in which she began "I would ask him . . ."? No time to dig for it now. They showed his statement back to back with the mother's questions and it made sense (in as far as it became clear why he was offering that specific information.)

:agree:

Why does this make some people squirm so much?

The parents had publicly stated that they did not want this apology publicly made during the bond hearing, at which they were present for the first time in the same room with Zimmerman.
Attorney says if he'd gotten that message directly, he would not have had Z do the apology.
I took Trayvon's mom's questions as rhetorical, not something she expected him to address to her personally from the witness stand in court.
It was very disrespectful and ill-timed.

Probably not that important to the overall case, but between Zimmerman and Martin's parents, not a good move at all.

Whose agenda would be clouded by "truth?"
It's Zimmerman's attorney who is trying to have records sealed at this point.
I don't think much will change either way if records are released early, or not.

Was just trying to answer your question.
