What should I be looking for in a good photo printer?
#1
I currently have a $50 HP printer/scanner desk jet. I'm looking for something a little better as far as printing photos and sketches I've done on my iMac and iPad. I need fine detail on various paper types. I'm on a budget so I can't go all out but I'd like to hear your suggestions as far as brands and specs.

Thanks

I like Canons, I have an older Pixma MP560 which I got on sale for $50 but now sells new on Amazon for $200, and I also have an MX870 which I haven't used yet, but should be the same printing engine as the MP560.

Too bad you didn't think of this about 3 months ago, the Canon Pro 9000 Mark II was on sale at Amazon for $318 and I already got my $200 rebate, and Amazon threw in a 50 pack for 13x19 paper, about $60-75 value. That was a very good deal.

I forgot to mention I'd like to have a scanner as well - but I guess I could use my current HP for that.

My personal opinion, is that I've had it with color printing at home. I just have color printing done by a service. A really great color printer will have a very expensive price and have at least 8 ink cartridges. Some even have 12 cartridges.

I guess it depends upon how big you're printing, what your printing volume is, and whether or not you need professional results.

YMMV...

I wasn't clear enough in my OP

I'm looking for:

- price $100-150
- volume will be low
- borderless printing
- farly good detail
- size 8.5x11 - 13x19

Optional
- wifi/AirPrint

I've been doing watercolors on my ipad with an app called Paper. If you look at the app screenshots you'll get an idea of what I'm wanting to print.

Maybe something like this? http://www.adorama.com/ICAIX6520.html

Canon and don't pay over $50 for it. Wait for a sale, look on fatwallet.com for deals. The printer is practically free because they make money on the ink.
