Doofus question about SIMS

Going to New Zealand and Australia next month and bringing my VZ iPhone 5. Any suggestions on getting a SIM to use for calls and maybe some small amount of data? But I'm really a newbie here. Questions:
1. Where to get the SIM--in NZ or at home by mail?
2. How to put it in and then out to replace it with the VZ SIM?
3. Does anyone know if I can get one for both NZ and Aus?

We'll be in NZ for 2 weeks and Australia for 2 weeks.

Yes, it does. I have also read that it is actually unlocked on the GSM side and can be used on ATT or T-Mobile, even in this country, if you can get one of the new smaller nano SIMS that it takes.
