Need Deal on Office for Mac or other suggestion
#1
I personally have used Office for Mac. But now I need to install on Grand Daughters computer. Any recommendations as to how to buy it and save money. Or a competitive program that is just as good, or better.

Thanks

I think the home and student version is less than $100.

If one of the free office suites will do the job, it's hard to beat free...

Depending on her uses, either program may, or may not, be "just as good or better".

IIRC the Home/Student version comes in one and three user flavors, w/ the difference usually less than $20, sometimes a lot less during various sales... not everybody uses all three installs from the three user version. Ask around your extended family, maybe someone w/ an unused install can temporarily adopt the granddaughter. Noeooffice/OpenOffice is another budget keeper option.

What OS is she using? I'm using MSFT Excel 11 (Office) with ML. I use vs 8 on my OS10.6 and you can buy that cheaply anyway I found it.

There are also the free ones which are open source which work well.

LibreOffice meets all my needs.

My daughter, though, was ordered to buy Excel ™ for a chem class. Sigh. As if the $500 text books weren't rip-off enough.

Depending on what she needs, Pages and Keynote are really better programs than Word and Powerpoint.

If you have to use office, I prefer word 2008 over word 2011.

But Outlook (in office 2011) is MUCH better than Entourage (in 2008).

Office 2008 (with the exception of Entourage) is a fine package that works great even with SL. So you might be able to save some $$ and get the older suite.
