Wife's MBP turned into a brick last night
#1
My wife's MBP last night was running low on battery (she got the popup telling her it would shut down in a few mins), so she finished her email, closed the lid, and plugged it in. We came back and hour or 2 later and the thing is a brick. Won't do anything. Not a chime, not a fan, not a peep. It was on a bed, so no water damage. I took the bottom off and looked inside and nothing looks amiss. Reset the SMC. no love.

This am after being plugged in all night, when I press the power button I can hear some very faint click once, but then nothing. Sadly, it is not under applecare. And of course I am going out of town this weekend so can't start pulling RAM and the SSD to see if that helps.

Any thoughts other than genius bar appt?

reset PRAM, at this point it cannot hurt

Could be a bad power adapter. Bring it along with the computer to the Apple Store so they can check it out.

How old is it? Does it have a PRAM Battery?

"Look Smithers. This bird has become petrified and lost it's way!"

"It's a brick, sir."

If this is a 2008 MBP then it might be a shot logic board. Time for Genius Bar.

If the power adapter is of the magnetic kind, clean it with a tooth brush a couple of times... you know, where it matters.

We tried a number of power adapters so that's not it. Don't know how to zap the PRAM if the thing won't even fire up. she as a genius bar appt this am.

FWIW, I've had a couple nail-biting low-power revival sessions with my MBP 2007. I tried all possible combinations of resets, battery in/out, adapter in/out, and patience, and it would eventually come back. Can't say exactly what worked because I tried many things. I have not had this behavior since getting a new battery.
