VPN questions
#1
Is the Firefox VPN good enough for an ordinary user?

Would something else be better?

Do I even need a VPN?

(Late 2012 Mini).

It mostly depends on how much you care about the hit to your speeds. It's not an exact correspondence, but there are two big reasons people pay for VPN services: one is how well the company actually protects your identity, and how little information they collect and store on you; the second is that paid VPN services give you faster access than free ones.

Forumites, please feel free to correct me.

Some VPN info with links @ Wikipedia, Comparison of virtual private network services.

imho, avoid Private Internet Access (PIA). Their new owner Kape Technologies has
a shaky history. I'm cancelling my PIA renewal unless I get convinced Kape can be
trusted. ymmv

Here's a link to SlickDeals search results for VPNs you might find useful.
Take all comments with a big grain of salt and remember SD gets paid to promote
certain vendors!
