‘ Reviewers panned Apple’s Studio Display webcam, but a software fix is coming ‘
#1
‘ Apple has confirmed to multiple outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, that the Studio Display webcam's image quality is being affected by a software bug and that the company is working on a fix.

Daring Fireball's John Gruber shares slightly more detail, credited to "little birdies" (in DF parlance, usually a thinly veiled reference to Apple employees in a position to know about something). They say the Studio Display's webcam quality issues were due to "a bug introduced at the last minute" and that the software update should make the webcam's image quality look about as good as it does on iPads with the same wide-angle Center Stage-compatible camera. ‘

Not all reviewers have had this issue (seems to be about 50/50), so hopefully it's just a bug they can squash.

I had never seen this guy before, but I thought his review was really well done. It's logical and informative, and he covers most of the things someone considering the Studio Display would be most curious about.

Assuming the camera issue is resolvable, I'm still interested in the Studio Display. For me the biggest negative is the stand. If I purchased it, I would probably go with the VESA option.

The reviews I've read say it's the same monitor as the 27" imac, but without the computer and more expensive...

The panel is the same. The Studio Monitor has its own CPU, so I guess it's not entirely "without the computer."

27" iMac screen is great. Nothing really compares.

But why this screen ended up being essentially the same thing they have been pushing since 2014, I will never know. Repackaged and repri$ed.

speakers are a waste of space, tech and money. Added cause the Studio just has a $1 speaker. But any $29 2.1 set of externals will kill it.

an Apple Sound System® would make a great addition for only $999 more!
